Baseball and soccer

With three active boys, we stay pretty busy in the spring/early summer with both baseball and soccer. We did not have the luxury of having both Jackson and Bode on the same team this year, so we had two baseball schedules to juggle, as well as two soccer schedules for Davis and Bode. Thankfully, Jackson decided soccer is not his favorite and didn't play this year! Even though it gets a bit hectic and dinnertime can be a struggle, it really is so much fun to watch them play and have a good time.

Jackson moved up from the rookies to the minors this year. One of the biggest differences in the minors is it is kid pitch, instead of pitching machine. Jackson decided he wanted to try his hand at pitching, and he ended up doing really well! Even though he was one of the youngest kids on the team, he pitched in almost every game and was probably the #2 pitcher overall. He got several strike outs and was a big contributor to a lot of his team's wins. It was fun seeing him take initiative with something that stretched himself and put him in a situation with some pressure behind it.

His team didn't have a great winning record during the regular season, but they ended up doing awesome during the tournament and ended up taking 3rd place! It was crazy because they ended up beating a few of the teams that had creamed them earlier in the season.

Sean decided to continue coaching the Angels rookie team, so he was Bode's coach again this year. They had a really young team (rookie division age ranges from K-2nd grade), but they held their own and won a handful of games. I love watching rookies because the progress over the season is always insane.

Bode had an awesome season. He became such a strong batter and almost always hit at least a double. He also played pitcher, as well as first base a little bit. I love watching him play because he gets so into it.

After the regular season, this league does an all-star tournament where a few of the best players from each team are chosen and form a few teams and compete in a tournament. Bode was SO excited to be on all stars this year.

I knew with all of the other sport schedules we were juggling, we needed to limit Davis to one sport. He played rec soccer with a neighborhood team and was fun to watch. He started out sort of timid, but made some good progress. It was a lot of running around the ball :) He is REALLY excited to start playing baseball like his brothers.

Bode also played spring soccer, and he is just as much fun to watch on the soccer field as he is the baseball field. That boy was just born to be active. He scored at least one goal every game, but it was usually closer to 3 or 4. His coach had him sit out more often because Bode was always scoring so often. We always laugh because he gets such an intense look on his face while he plays. Two of Bo's best friends were also on the team and are awesome players too, so they had a blast. This fall they are all moving together to a NUCS team, and I am really excited to watch them play again.

It's been a nice break from sports so far this summer (aside from camps). Hard to believe the next season will be starting before we know it!
