Bryce Canyon

For spring break this year we decided to go to Bryce Canyon. We were ambitious and decided we'd camp even though the weather looked a bit uncertain and it was going to be pretty cold at night. We booked a camp site at Ruby's. When we got there in the early evening, Davis immediately started climbing a pine tree near our site and we all helped set up the tent. Once situated, the boys went on a little dirt bike ride. We took the kids swimming at the adjacent hotel, ate our tinfoil dinners, and turned in for the night.

Unfortunately it was a pretty wild night that started with Molly waking up around 2am and throwing up all over her pillow and sleeping bag. It was one of those situations where you don't even know what to do and where to start. It was freezing outside, everyone was tired, and it was pitch black. Sean helped take care of Molly while I used paper towels to do my best to clean things up. Sean and Molly ended up staying in the car the rest of the night, getting up several times while Molly was sick again. Poor girl. I thought for sure we'd be heading home first thing in the morning, but somewhat miraculously, she woke feeling fine! We decided we'd try going into Bryce Canyon and play it by ear. Thankfully whatever she had moved on crazy fast and we were still able to have a full, awesome day.

We stopped first at the Visitor's Center and then headed out for a hike. We started at Sunset Point and did the Queens Garden trail combined with the Navajo Loop trail. It was so beautiful and a really pretty day for hiking.

After hiking, we drove to a few lookouts. Bryce Canyon lived up to the hype! It's such an incredible place.

We did another hike later in the day we all loved called the Mossy Cave Trail. The kids loved walking down in the river bed, walking behind the waterfall, and throwing rocks.

We went out for pizza and returned to camp. Thankfully it was a much less eventful night. This time, Molly and I slept in the car, while all the boys stayed in the tent. They told me the next morning it wasn't nearly as cold as the night before, even though it was really windy. We packed up camp and set out to head to Escalante to hike through a few slot canyons: Spooky and Peek-a-boo. They boys had hiked them a few years prior on a backpacking trip with Sean, Dave, and the Heinhold boys. They were so excited to show them to the rest of us. It was a really cool hike and I couldn't believe how tight some of the slot canyons were. The kids had fun and were troopers with all of the hiking we did on the trip!

Glad we were able to take this trip and glad it worked out even with a few hiccups!
