I've lived in Utah for 15+ years and had never hiked Mt. Timpanogos. I have really wanted to hike it the past few years, but it never seemed to work out. I made it my goal to hike it this year, but after Sean and I's big trip to Europe, I thought I might have missed my window. My friend Staci remembered my goal and asked me if I still wanted to hike it-- we checked with her dad who works with search and rescue and he said it was still ok to hike (we had had snow already and weren't sure about trail conditions). He said it was totally fine, so we invited our friend Krista and decided to do it!
The hike is about 15 miles round trip. We started at the Timpanooke trail head, which happens to be where you start for one of our favorite family hikes-- Scout Falls. I was excited to go further on the trail. We started around 6:30 am and enjoyed watching the sun rise with all of the fall colors around us.
We hiked up to the saddle and had fantastic weather. Once we hit the saddle and went over that ridge, it was crazy windy and really cold!
We made it to the top! That last mile or so is pretty crazy, but I loved seeing the amazing views of the valley and loved the whole experience in general. It was nice going late in the season because the trail wasn't crowded and we even had the hut at the top to ourselves for a little while! I told my kids I estimated we would summit about the same time they were at recess. I told them I would blow them a kiss from the top and told them to send me one back!
The wind was so cold we were getting cold headaches!
It was fun seeing the fall colors in full sun on our way down. It really is such a beautiful trail. I want to hike it in the summer sometime also with all of the wildflowers!
I am so glad I have awesome friends to do adventurous things with!
