Memorial Day in Island Park

We headed to Island Park for Memorial Day and had a great time. We knew going into the weekend it was going to be really cold, because as my parents always say, it wouldn't be Memorial Day weekend without snow! haha

It was really nice to be somewhere away from home for a few days. The change of scenery was a breath of fresh air, and it was nice to be around family. As the forecast predicted, it snowed the first day we were there. We didn't mind. We still went for a walk and the kids enjoyed the hot tub and novelty of it.

The next day we took a trip to Wade and Cliff Lakes. We walked down to the little beach at Wade Lake and skipped rocks. I kept thinking how glad I was not to be camping there in the cold like the group we saw driving out! It was really cold.

West Yellowstone wasn't as desolate as it had been I guess, but it was definitely not nearly as crowded as it usually is Memorial Day weekend. We were happy the good old rock shop was open.

Going to Campfire Lodge is always a highlight for me when we go to the cabin. We had to make a reservation because of Covid-19 and had to get our temperature checked and wear masks when we walked in. We laughed because usually we have to wait forever for a table, so it was actually really nice having a reservation and not having it busy! The food and the view were perfect, as always.

We went out wanting to hike that afternoon but the weather didn't cooperate and the road to the trail was so muddy, it became impassable (we were headed to Hidden Lake and wanted to hike to Otter Lake). We figure we'll try again later in the year!

We stopped at the continental divide and at a tree my dad told us was used to hang one of the vigilantes from Virginia City

Saw a few moose on the way back to the cabin!

That afternoon ended up being really nice. We took a long four wheeler ride to the river and the kids had a blast going over the "jumps" and splashing in the huge mud puddles.

Gorgeous sunset over Sawtell

Went on a walk the next day, but by this time all of the snow had melted. What a difference a day makes!

I think this was the dirtiest my car had ever been. Sean and I were laughing how we were glad our Utah plates were covered up so we wouldn't get any dirty looks from the Idahoans!

One more four wheeler ride with my parents to the pond before packing up and taking off for home. We're so fortunate to have this place to retreat whenever we want. I'm really grateful for my parents for providing this haven for us!
