Fall sports madness

To say we had a busy sports schedule this fall would be an enormous understatement. We were juggling three soccer teams, lacrosse, flag football, and tackle football schedules all at once. It was crazy at times, and we had to get creative with dinnertime, but we made it through! Even with the chaos, I am happy my kids enjoy being active and playing sports. I thought I'd do a post with a few of the team pictures all in one place for memory's sake!

JACKSON

Jackson played flag football again with a bunch of his friends from the neighborhood. This team has been playing together 5 or 6 years now and they have so much fun together. Our friend Preston has been coaching the team the last few years and the boys have a great team. They were undefeated few years ago, then only lost one game last year, and then returned to being undefeated again this year! Jackson had a great season and usually had at least one touchdown each game. Those flag football games are so much fun to go watch because we are there with so many friends!

Jackson also decided he wanted to try out lacrosse this year. I was sort of surprised because he hadn't mentioned wanting to play before, but we signed him up and he ended up loving it. He got to play on the same team as his friend Eric and their team actually ended up being undefeated as well! It came down to a nail biter during the last couple of minutes of their final game, but they pulled out the win. It was fun watching him try something new and have success. He says he wants to continue to play, so we'll likely sign him up in the spring also. In the meantime, I really need to look up the rules and learn more about the game!

BODE

This year Bode decided to try tackle football. He ended up playing on a 4th/3rd split team and lucky for us, our neighbor was the coach and held practice at the park right by our house. This was huge because it made getting to and from practice 3 times a week much more convenient. Bode was one of the youngest kids on the team, but he had a great season and had a lot of fun. His coaches were impressed with his speed and giving 100% all the time. I am proud of him going for something on his own-- he didn't have any close friends he knew who were playing, but he wanted to do it anyway. He has so much more courage than I had as a kid. I will admit I had some reservations about him playing tackle. I talked to his pediatrician about it and Sean and I didn't take the decision lightly. We felt ok about moving forward and it proved to be a good decision. He had a good experience and grew a lot in a lot of different aspects. Their team did well overall, though they narrowly lost their first tournament game.

Bode got an interception in one of his very first games!

In addition to football, Bode was also on a AA soccer team with NUCS this fall. He was on the team with several friends, and they are a good little team! Very competitive and some of my very favorite games to watch. It is amazing to me how good these kids are at their age! I don't have a team picture because they play again together in the spring, so we'll take one then. They had a good season and it was nice being in a higher, more competitive division, because last year their team just creamed everyone else. This year they had to really work to get their wins and they lost games also.

DAVIS

Davis also played on a NUCS soccer team in the rec division. Same with Bode-- no team picture, but there will be in the spring. He loved playing with his friend Levi and was really aggressive with the ball and had a great season. He scored a goal almost every game!

MOLLY

Molly jumped into her first sports team this fall playing rec soccer. She was very excited about her pink cleats and playing on the same team as her friend Hayes. She and Hayes were hilarious to watch. They sat and laughed and played throughout the games. Molly was good to run with the ball and occasionally she even kicked it. :)

When all of these sports started wrapping up, it was bittersweet, but it is so nice to have more nights at home and not so many schedules to juggle! We're now on to basketball for the two older boys, but that feels manageable. Hopefully we'll get lots of snow this winter so we can add skiing to the mix!
